The Second Empire of Azeroth
#28 - Hunting Time
Roger recovered quickly. Although the priest couldn't do anything about the residual fel energy corroding his body, he healed his injuries.
The priest came from Northshire, which had already been captured by the Orcs. B Company had preemptively covered the evacuation of non-combat personnel to the Echo Ridge Mine where Roger was recovering. Some priests from Northshire Abbey were also arranged to come, to take care of the people of Northshire and to soothe their hearts.
Fortunately, the Orcs withdrew after looting all the supplies from Northshire. People left the Echo Ridge Mine and returned to their land to plant crops again. It would take a long time for Lothar to lead the Alliance army back, and before that, the people of Northshire had to ensure they didn't starve to death.
The task of restoring production was left to the priests of the Abbey. Roger led B Company in manufacturing enough arrows, maintaining their weapons and armor, and then set off on the road to Goldshire.
After the Orcs broke through Stormwind City, they did not occupy it for long. Instead, they looted all the supplies in the city and then burned it to the ground. Then they returned to Redridge Mountains, seemingly advancing north.
Roger knew that the warmongering Orcs were not satisfied with this victory. Orgrim was not satisfied with the land of the Kingdom of Stormwind either; he wanted to conquer the entire continent and seize living space for the Orcs. Therefore, he followed the trend and chose to continue attacking north, killing all humanoid creatures they encountered.
Elwynn Forest could provide the most supplies in the form of timber, but Redridge Mountains also had forests, and what Elwynn Forest could provide, Redridge Mountains could also provide. What Redridge Mountains could not provide was only Goldshire's specialties.
The Jade Quarry and the Fargodeep Mine were the top gold mines in the Kingdom of Stormwind. The gold produced here supported the development of the Kingdom of Stormwind for hundreds of years. It could be said that these two mines supported the Kingdom of Stormwind's centuries of territorial expansion, providing military expenses for tens of thousands of troops.
Especially after the gold mines in Moonbrook were exhausted, these two mines became especially important to the Kingdom of Stormwind.
Now, the Orcs had obtained these two mines, giving them the capital to continue their northward offensive. They used the gold to purchase a large amount of supplies from the goblins in Stranglethorn Vale, including important military supplies such as weapons, armor, food, and magical items.
In order to avoid exposing the human survivors in Northshire, Roger did not attack the Jade Quarry, but bypassed Goldshire and launched a surprise attack on the Fargodeep Mine.
Faced with the powerful Death Knight, B Company had merely been led by the nose through the forest for several laps, with only a few casualties. Now, facing only the Orc peons and foremen, it was simply no difficulty for the soldiers of B Company.
In less than half an hour, B Company killed all the Orcs in the Fargodeep Mine, and then used the Orc's carriages to transport the refined gold to the docks in the south. This dock was east of the Maclure Vineyards. There were several small boats there, which transported the carriages and gold eastward.
Roger really wanted to transport this gold to Redridge Mountains, but there were too many Orcs there. Helplessly, Roger could only head south, towards Darkshire.
After the explosion of Karazhan, the entire southern Elwynn Forest was shrouded in gloom. The once sunny Darkshire was now perpetually without sunlight, having become Duskwood.
The Orcs left hundreds of Orcs stationed in Duskwood, their mission being to prevent human survivors from crossing the Deadwind Pass and attacking the Dark Portal.
They established defenses in Duskwood and the mountain pass of Deadwind Pass, but this also gave Roger an opportunity.
After setting up traps in the forest, Roger led the hunters closer to Duskwood. A wolf rider squad was stationed in Duskwood. Although there were only fifty of them, the Orcs believed that the wolf riders could defeat any invading human survivors, thanks to Duskwood's commanding terrain.
Roger forcefully drew back his elven hunter's bow and shot a magical arrow. The arrow drew a perfect arc in the sky and fell into the worg kennel.
"Whoosh—"
The flames spread rapidly, igniting the worg kennel and the nearby worgs. The worgs that were burned howled and fled, while the worgs that weren't burned ran even faster, afraid that the flames would spread to them too. But the kennel was so small, where could they hide? Soon the entire kennel was engulfed in flames, and the worgs howled as they tried to escape. They frantically slammed into the kennel, but the steel-made kennel remained motionless.
The Orcs guarding the kennel were stunned and quickly rushed towards the kennel, wanting to open the kennel door and release the worgs.
"Swish—"
A sharp arrow pierced his neck, reaping his life.
The Orcs not far away also noticed the firelight from the kennel and rushed over. But a rain of arrows came, felling more than half of them. Those lucky Orcs shouted while dodging the arrows: "Enemies!"
The entire Duskwood Orc garrison was alarmed. A strong Orc was unusually conspicuous in the crowd. He was an Orc warrior, the highest commander of Duskwood. The Orc warrior looked in the direction of the arrows and roared, "Despicable humans, I will kill you all!"
Wielding a battle axe, he led a squad of Orc warriors towards Roger's direction.
Roger curled his lips in disdain, "Brothers, let the hunt begin!"
The hunters of B Company nodded one after another, dispersing and retreating into the forest before the Orcs arrived. Roger shot down several Orcs in succession, and finally retreated into the forest.
Seeing that he had become a lone wolf, he roared at the forest, "Damn humans, do you dare to have a decisive battle with me!"
"Pfft—"
A blade pierced out from his chest. With his last strength, the Orc warrior turned his head and said his last words to Roger with hatred: "You have defiled Maggora…"
Roger kicked the Orc warrior's corpse away, pulled out the Flame Blade, and said disdainfully: "Based on the virtues of you Orcs, your Maggora is not a good thing either!"
To hate the Orcs is to hate everything about them!
"Lieutenant Keishen, the Orc wolf riders are rushing over!" a hunter reminded.
"Let's go!"
Roger led his men and quickly fled into the forest. After seeing the corpse of the Orc warrior, the wolf riders angrily chased after them. They had no way to explain to the chieftain unless they killed Roger and the others.
And so, they entered the trap zone. When a worg stepped on a trap, the fate of these wolf riders was already sealed.
Chain traps were constantly triggered, and the ejected arrows and blades cut the worgs' thighs, causing them to lose their ability to move. Then countless arrows and magic shot out from the forest, engulfing the wolf riders.
